GRADY CO., Okla. (KSWO) - A Lawton man is behind bars Monday and facing several years in prison for manslaughter.

35-year-old Marshall Point now faces charges of first-degree manslaughter, driving under the influence and inattentive driving. Court documents allege he hit a blue SUV around 4:30 Sunday morning, killing one woman and injuring another.

The SUV’s passenger told police she and Hildreth Overcash had been driving on I-44 listening to an audiobook when the car was struck from behind. Troopers speculated in a report the car had been forced off the road near mile marker 72 and rolled several times. Overcash, a 61-year-old from Oklahoma City, died of her injuries on the way to the hospital according to court documents.

Point appeared to continue driving for less than half a mile after hitting the SUV, according to court documents, which say he hit a guardrail and briefly left the road before coming to a stop against the center barrier wall on I-44.

Police say they spoke with Point at the hospital, where he said he had hit the wall but denied that another car had been involved. An affidavit says on the drive to the jail, Point and an officer discussed gummies “that are like shrooms but do not contain psilocybin,” and Point said he had taken some a couple days prior.

Point faces up to five years in jail if convicted.
