LAWTON, Okla. - When a tornado warning is issued, people need to remember an important acronym known as the DUCK rules.

D stands for Downstairs. This means people should seek shelter in a basement or storm shelter if possible, otherwise get to the lowest level of the home.

U stands for Underneath Something. Someone should find something sturdy such as a heavy table and get into the duck and tuck position, while protecting their head.

C stands for Center Part of Home. The idea is residents put as many walls between themselves and the storm as possible.

K stands for Keep Away from Windows. Glass can easily shatter as a tornado moves through. People should remain sheltered in place until the tornado threat has passed.
